A penalty shootout game with both sides of the challenge
Penalty Shotout is ARCADE’s free browser football game built around scoring and saving penalties. You choose a national team, take responsibility for every kick and then become the goalkeeper for the opponent’s turn. The challenge is not only to hit a corner: it is to control shot height, vary your direction and time a save under pressure.
The tournament gives each shootout a place in a longer campaign. Group points can keep you alive after a draw, while knockout matches demand a winner. Keep the same nation as you progress towards the final. There are 48 selectable teams, and the draw and invited participants belong to this game rather than an official competition.
Simple inputs, decisions on every kick
The aiming marker moves sideways before and during your hold. Hold the action button or pitch to raise the target, then release to take the shot. Holding too long sends the ball over the bar. On a keyboard, use the space bar for the same action.
When defending, wait for the target and tap the place you want to cover. On a keyboard, position the cursor with the arrow keys and press space to dive. Direction, height and timing all matter: choosing the right side alone does not guarantee a save. Repeating the same shooting pattern also gives the computer goalkeeper more information.
From the group stage to a final
The campaign starts in one of 12 groups of four. Each side takes five penalties; group matches can end in draws. The top two teams in each group and the eight best third-placed teams advance to the round of 32. Knockout ties use sudden death if the initial series is level.
Completed match results are stored locally on your device. You can return to a tournament later, but leaving during an unfinished match means restarting that match. This is a single-player game with computer opponents, not an online competition against other people.
Play in your browser
The game works with touch controls on mobile and mouse or keyboard on desktop. There is no account or game download. The interface is available in English, Portuguese and Spanish. Choose your nation, enter the pitch and learn the moving target before chasing the corners.
